The Pengelley and Wallis family: Their Occupation Experiences 1939-1945

My grandfather William Henry Pengelley, having served out his service in the Royal Navy by September 1938 had returned to civilian life.

In August 1939 he was called back to the Royal Navy Reserve and did not return to Guernsey until June 1945…

This is the story of how my grandmother, Ellen Rose Marquand Pengelley managed to keep most of the family together without a man about during the German Occupation.

The talk, with the aid of many photographs and original documents reveals the story of how my family fared throughout the Occupatio.

It is a story of fear, hunger and sadly not every member of the family lived to see our Liberation.

This is story of our My Family at War…and also a tribute to my dear grandmother Ellie…

Where: St Martin’s Community Centre, St Martin’s.

When:  Tuesday 2nd September, 2025

Time: 7.00 pm for 7.15 pm start.

Duration: Expected to be 45 minutes then time for questions and answers.

Refreshments: Complementary tea or coffee served once event is over.
